Aztecs Add Talented Transfer For 2008 Season

June 27, 2008

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head coach Mark Warner has announced the addition of middle blocker Michella Domo to the 2008 roster. The 6-0 native of Vancouver, B.C., comes to the Aztecs after completing her freshman campaign at Canisius College last fall.

Domo led the Griffs with 3.14 kills per game, 1.07 blocks per game and a .343 hitting percentage. Those numbers ranked 10th, fourth and third respectively in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2007. Her hitting percentage ranked second all-time at Canisius and her 95 block assists was third-most in school history. In addition, her average of 1.28 blocks per game in league play was second-best in the MAAC while her .316 attack percentage place fourth in the conference.

Domo hit at least .500 in nine matches during her freshman season and was over the .400 mark on four other occasions. She was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Oct. 16 after a pair of matches in which she averaged 3.29 kills and 1.29 blocks with hitting a combined .455 attack percentage.

Other honors for Domo last fall included being named to the all-tournament teams at the Ruby's Inn Montana Invitational and the Golden Flash Invitational at Kent State.

She joins an Aztec volleyball recruiting class that has been ranked among the top 25 in the country. Other top newcomers include right side hitter Lauren Van Orden, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Colorado and a high school All-American along with outside hitters Kyley Sexton and Paije Pearson, both of whom received Highest Honorable Mention All-American accolades from Prep Volleyball. In addition, incoming freshman defensive specialist Courtney Miller was an all-district selection in Texas and was honored by Prep Volleyball as one of the top defensive players in the nation.

SDSU opens its 2008 season by hosting the annual Aztec Invitational in Peterson Gym beginning with a match against UC Irvine on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7:00 p.m.
